I do a lot of tinkering with midi files.I want to make some good pad sounds that blend together in a smooth type of effect Im mainly trying to get horns and violins to work together.Anyone have any tips on using Pro Tools free to help me get better pad sounds.Also Im not to familiar with the many plugins in Pro Tools...compressors,eq,etc.Im a novice so please keep it simple I would deeply appreciate any help.All you guys seem to know your music as well as anyplace Ive been on the net.

Jules is correct, the Waves plugs are good. I've never used PT free but you will presumably need the RTAS versions of the plugins.
How you actually use these plugins, or outboard gear for that matter, to get what you want is a never ending search, even for those of us that have been at this for many years. Obviously the longer you've been doing this sort of thing, the quicker you will be able to home in on what's required and how to get it. But there is still a fair amount of playing around.
