Hi! I'd like to get some opinions on the Kurzweil PC2X and how it stacks up to some of it's competition (Yam S90, Roland RD 700 etc.) I'm basically looking for an "all sounds in 1 box" type board for live gigging. I've played the Kurz and was WAY impressed w/the sounds, feel etc. In my somewhat isolated area I don't have access to the Roland or Yamaha boards and was wondering if anyone has had a chance to A/B them w/ the Kurz and if so what are your impressions? Thanks!

Hi Bob

I've been playing my S80 for about 2 years now and I've beat the living shit out of it. One time I was unloading for a gig and had it in a soft case stood on end in the street. I turned briefly and it tipped over with the keys landing square on the curb. This smashed all of the C4 range of the instrument...all the keys shattered but it still worked fine.

So, the skinny is, I like Yamaha stuff for their feel, reliability and familiarity with how they work. Of course, I've done sound design for them for years and I'm really familiar with the stuff.

i've never liked Roland gear, its just my preference. i don't think its bad, it just doesn't tickle my fancy, like Campari.

Lots of people use the Kurzweil but I don't like the action. Its unplayable to me. Again, that's preference.

I'd really check out all the instruments before you buy, you have to have the one that feels right, sounds good and is easy to get around on.
