Back in the early 80's I tried both the MXR Dynacomp and Distortion+ on vocals ( and most of my other stompboxes).... The Dynacomp is very "thick" on vocals... it doesn't behave like rack-comps... it sounds strange, but can be used as an fun effect.
If you're going to use it, you should try to get a good signal level in to the comp. and not add too much gain.
