If it is your computer soundcard creating the MIDI sounds, you would need to take the analog output, should you want to record the MIDI sounds to software, through your audio interface computer input unit. In that respect, you would utilize the Microsoft mixer. The Microsoft mixer will be able to vary the output level of the computers sound card output which generated the MIDI sound. You can access the Microsoft mixer by going to your start menu, followed by programs, accessories, entertainment, where you'll find the Microsoft mixer for your built-in sound card. This is not necessarily the way to do MIDI but due to our communication gap in language, perhaps I'm not clear if I have answered your question?
We can try it again or perhaps others will chime in? MIDI is not my strong point.

I think you'll find that if you are currently listening to, getting your MIDI sounds, from the onboard computer soundcard/synthesizer, unless it is a sample based type of file, your MOTU nor any other audio card generates simple computer soundcard synthesizer MIDI sounds. Different kind of software such as Cubase and others along with a comprehensive sample music library will only allow you to create sounds coming from your MOTU, by utilizing sample libraries that are compatible with your MIDI program. That are played back from their sample loops out through your audio interface while being clocked by the MIDI program.
This is the best I can help you with as I am a MIDIdiot

Because I dont believe you, your grammar and misspellings are not conducive, nor consistent to a non-english speaking person.
I speak 4 languages, I see your pattern, or lack of!!!
Because I, as a person who was originally foreign to the English language am being insulted. :x

I gave birth to my parents in the United States.
I built my high school radio station in the United States.
I failed electronics in high school in the United States.
I can say "I can't speak your language" in a couple of languages, poorly.
I can hardly speak English intelligently. Like most Americans....?? (was that an oxymoron? Or just a moron? Neither or is that neither? Tomato?)
Even though I am approximately 67% less stupid than George W..
At least the Canadiens get French shoved down.... or is that up, their throats? Nose? Or that polar opposite???
Bipolar. A bottle of white? A bottle of red? Perhaps a bottle of rose'? Instead????............. I.......I'm an engineer! I'll mix them all together!

You mean you are using VST plug-in synths...? If so there will be volume controls on the synth's GUI, plus you should have mixer channel(s) in Nuendo providing the synth's output, which you can adjust in level or process with effects plug-ins.
You may want to consider investing in PPMulator:
This will give you a properly calibrated BBC style PPM meter in your master section.

-18 should be equivalent to + 4. So when you plug in your microphone preamp that delivers + 4 DB at the outputs, your inputs should indicate -18. This provides for 18 DB of headroom which you must have. Your preamp output of + 4 is your normal operating level and has the capabilities of delivering over 15 DB of output beyond + 4. This is why you must keep levels around -18 as indicated on your digital peak meters so that you do not go beyond 0dbfs.
Otherwise you use your ears which it sounds like you are already doing?
Yes yes I think I can hear you now yes, what was that? " Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow, Mr. Watson come in here I need you..."?
Hope this helps?
