I recently purchased a new HD (Hitachi Deskstar) for dedicated storage of my audio. Previously I used the same drive for my programs and Audio. This worked fine, but I needed more storage and heard it was generally better to use two drives.
I set-up the new drive as "slave" on the same IDE cable (I did not have an extra). The audio coming from the new (slave) drive is very choppy and unstable. Do I need to have the second drive on a dedicated IDE cable?
The other thing I noticed (maybe unrelated) is the new drive seems to always be turning. If I put my hand on the PC, there is a pulsating vibration. Doesn't sound good.
Any ideas?

Welcome to RO,
I would make the drive a master on the other IDE channel.
