I will be recording a brass quintet in the next month or so. The instrumentaion is 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, and tuba. The set up is in a half circle shape(tpt, hn, tuba, trb, tpt) with the outer trumpets facing one another.

I have access to a variety of rehearsal rooms large and small (and maybe a live church!) and some very good mics (U67s, M150s, TLM 170s, Coles, Royer) and preamps (Millennia, Grace)

Given these circumstances, how would you approach the recording?

Hall vs Room?
Mic selection?
Preamp selection?
Mic Placement?
