I'm wondering some of you folks might have some advice on doing this. For a track I am working on recording, a portion of the melody will be (hopefully if I can get this to work) played on a flute. I am doing this at home, recording it in my appartment. My fiance, who plays the flute, offered to actually play the part, rather than having me sequence it with samples. So now I get to figure out exactly how to do this.

Obviously, the appartment is not set up as live room in a studio. (We live there, so... there is furniture and other stuff that comes from living in the place.) So how do I go about actually recording the flute part?

The gear I have is, a dbx tube mic preamp with eq, and compressor, a Sure SM57, and a Sure KSM27 condenser mic.

So should I put her in a large room (which is not exactly a perfect acoustic environment by any means, with a fairly low ceiling, furniture, etc...), or in a large walk-in closet that would deaden the reverb? Do I use the condenser mic or the SM57? How far away from the sound source should I place the mic?

I'm used to recording guitars (electric) and vocals, but... I'm not sure how to go about it with a flute.
