Hi all.
I've made a new a addition to my aspiring home-studio.
A Voice AC 30 Classic Custom 1x12 w/a Celestion NeoDog.
I have a few mics in my bag to choose from.
SM-57s. .of course
Peavey-PVM 328s
CAD E-200
RODE NT1000
Stereo pair RODE NT5s
I planned to use a 57 into my Brick. Is there a,"preferred," mic for Micing cabs?
What are some determining factors on deciding whether to use a powered mic or not?
Last but not least, techniques...Im all ears for ideas old and new, so long as they have logical explanations
Darn rookies,. .LOL.
Im as giddy as a school girl pondering the new possibilities.
But seriously, all input is appreciated.
Joshua

you can't go wrong with a 57 thru a good pre-- its pretty much standard stuff. i would recommend auditioning several if u have them available as some sound better than others (age, condition etc). there are other mic alternatives (i sometimes use an original gt tube mic-- sounds SLIGHTLY better to my ear-- but often i'll just put up the 57 b/c of convenience and wanting to get a part down while its in my head) but the 57 is hard to beat for rock gtr-- 2" from the outside rim of the speaker angled slightly toward the cone. best of luck!
