A live sound guy in Delhi just got his rig a Mesa Boogie 3 channel Dualrectifier solo head with a 4x12 Recto slant cabnit (must be the cheaper version).
No one knows how to use it. He had it onstage today and all guitarists totally fuked their sound. (but they are usually to dumb to know any better, Driving the rectifier emulation of their GT6 units to a rectifier, with speaker modeling enabled!). I plan to hire it for a session ASAP. Real kicked about it.
So here is the issue. I will record heavy metal guitars. I have never done this before (recorded small combos at best). My mic cabnit has a SM57, RODE NT1a, Oktava 012 stereo (hyper). Beta 58a and the Beta 57a.
So no 609, MD412 or U87's... Can hire a kick drum mic if it helps... Tips please! (or am I better using that emulation software? No. )
Yet to figure out the differenc e between the Dual 3 channel and the Tripple 3 channel solo heads though...

Yep - run the guitars straight into the amp - you shouldn't need any external overdrives for an amp with that kind of gain.
btw: the diff. between the dual and triple Recto's is that the triple pushes 150 watts and has 3 rectifier tubes, the dual pushes 100watts and has 2 recto tubes. I believe the preamp sections of each are the same.

and the only pedals you really need to drive into an amp are to make it punch or specialty (wah and such). usually an overdrive (set VERY low drive) or EQ pedal to give a mid bump and color. you never want to send a speaker emu INTO a recto, only time is if you are using an actual line out on the amp and run it post to color (same for any tone control other than making the input more hot).
