Did you check that the switch at the back of the unit is set to 1?
What host interface are you using?
The cable select has nothing to do with the editor opening, it can run without disks anyway.

Host interface as in? The box that has the disks in it? I'm totally new to this Red stuff..been volunteered to get it running...I have the Mixtreme card, the Mixpander and the Red PCI card..The box says Red ..doesnt say SHRed anywhere..does it matter what program I install?
Maybe I'm a little confused by this system..do you have to have recording program such as Nuendo or Cubase to really use it?
By the way I'm installing it on a Compaq(gross as it is..only system available to install it here at work) Also it has the dreaded Svirge graphics video...god I hate those things,,anything with Sis or Svirge makes me quiver with fear of incompatabilities! lol
So is it a complete lack of a recording program installed on there that is preventing me from running this?
Quite confused...hopefully someone has some answers for me?!!!

Opus, you have to install the editor software for R.Ed. and not for the SSHDR! They are two different machines...

Could that be it?

I tried both...but then again that was on there when I took over the setup...I'm thinking of blowing everything out and re trying it..
How do you guys reccomend doing it? Install Mixtreme card and mixer firts..then install the Red Card and install the Red Software and then the mixpander card?

I'll try and give you some guidelines. It's all very easy. I have only installed R.Ed-systems on Win98SE with the ISA-card and WinXP/ISA.
It should be even easier with the PCI-card. I'm waiting for my PCI-card (which is bound for the Asus P4B266-E) so I haven't tried it yet.

1. I would recommend that you install the R.Ed. editor software first.
This is the software that controls the R.Ed. unit to record, edit, mix etc. No other software needed to run the R.Ed. The R.Ed. unit is a computer in itself with a processor and the audio-disks inside. You just control the R.Ed. from the PC-software. All the processing is done in the R.Ed.

2. Then you have to install the Soundscape device driver that is needed for the software to find the hardware. I'll give some more details later on.

3. Move on to the Mixpander which is a DSP-cards that adds DSP horsepower to the R.Ed. In addition it has ASIO/MME/GSIF/WDM drivers and it is multiclient. This way you can stream for example Gigastudio-samples directly into the Soundscape mixer and use the DSP of the Mixpander to mix them.

4.Last the Mixtreme. You don't really need a Mixtreme if you got the Mixpander. I have both right now, but I'm gonna put the Mixtreme in another computer. The Mixtreme is a soundcard designed to work with other software like Logic/Sonar/Nuendo etc. It also comes with a mixer application which makes routing very easy. It has onboard DSP which can be used for mixing. You can use it the same way as the Mixpander but with much less DSP-power. It is also multiclient.

Here's a brief description of the Soundscape Device Driver installation:

Win98:

Run "Add New Hardware" once for every Soundscape unit you have.

Select "Other Devices'", and press the "Have Disk" button. Point out the path to the file "SSDev.inf".

Select the Soundscape SSHDR1/R.Ed. device.

With the ISA-card you had to make sure you got the right base-address. I don't think this is needed for the PCI-card.

Anyway, the default address for the ISA-card were:
Unit 1 0250H-0257H
Unit 2 0258H- 025fH (If you have two R.Ed's)

Restart the computer after you checked the address.

Same procedure with NT4:

The device driver is automaticlly installed and a shortcut is placed in the Control Panel

Make sure that the check box for "Soundscape drivers running" is enabled for the units that you're using. Otherwise you will get the "No Soundscape devices available" message.
If you want to change some setting of the devices uncheck the box "Soundscape drivers running".

Exit the Mixtreme application if you're installing additional Soundscape devices.

When I installed a R.Ed. on a XP-machine (with the ISA-card), I just installed the software, I think I ran "Add new hardware" (or if the OS wanted a driver for the new hardware, I don't remember...) and pointed at the "SSDev.inf"-file. Done! Up and running...
