I used to use mine on mixes going to cassette tape, but other than that I found it too much.

Isn't that thing a parametric eq in a red suit? Wouldn't an equalizer be more versatile and do the same type of thing?

I like the BBE sound a lot if it isn't overdone.

How were you planning on routing your SM57 through it?

At some point you'll have to unbalance the signal for it to go through the BBE482.

I usually save the BBE until we have a final mix, but if you wanted to use it to some extent during the tracking - I'd say give it a try. Either way, it's a cool thing to have in your toolbox.

The only thing I've really found a BBE to be good for was holding the door open when I carry real gear in or out for a gig.

The only thing it does is a presence boost... which I can do with a simple twist of a channel strip EQ... but with less noise.

To each his own. To my ear it does more than an EQ can, if it isn't overdone. The one we use is one of the original design. Maybe they don't make 'em like the used to? I don't know...
