Hi. I'm a student currently studying audio technology at second year level through college.

I've been assigned a few questions, but i'll post only one.

"The favoured sound cards for 2in/out and 8+in/out."

If anyone could help me out, i'd be extremely grateful. I'm thinking about building my own machine at some point. I'll be reading this site a lot more in the future, i can see tonnes of information already, it's just that i'm in the middle of a lesson and it would help if anyone could give me the best sound cards for using with audio.

Thanks, B.

My favorite card I've been using in the $150 to $229 range is the M-Audio Delta 1010LT. 10 In/10 Out w/2 balanced XLR Ins as my faves. Great ASIO drivers IMO. Very stable card. Good sound, nice headroom, quiet, noise floor around -68dB, decent A/D, D/A converters on a PCI card.

Was easy to install, and comes with a digital I/O harness for optical, SPDIF, etc.

As with most pro-sumer cards the control panel isn't as user friendly as some folks would like it to be but what are you going to do? On the control panel in software you've got very functional patchbay features, hardware configuration features including a very handy control for Attenuation or Boost of Input and Output in standard incremements of -10dB, 0dB, and -4dB.

Works with Windows 98SE and up and Mac OSx.
