I have a Pro Tools digi001 with the software and I want to get a system for it. my main pc is getting bogged down because i'm using it for too many things and I want a fresh, inexpensive new windows machine that i can put in my band's rehearsal space.
I just want to be able to record 8 tracks at once and be able to mix the limit of 24 tracks for the digi001 with Pro Tools LE 5.3 or so. Ideally, I'd be able to compress 8 tracks or so.
I'd like to know what might be reasonable specs for a very simple machine...i don't want to spend a lot of money but i don't want the machine bogging down either
Processor: ?
RAM: how much? dram? sdram? foobarram?
Hard Drives: 1 or 2? How large? Firewire? will USB work? IDE internal?
Bus speed: 133Mhz ok? or do i need 400 mhz bus?
Any help would be much appreciated. My girlfriend is about to retire her very clean 400 Mhz machine but i suspect that might be a bit slow.

Firewire card for external transfers and external audio drives.
I did split the system drive ... can why explain later
that was over a year ago and things are even cheaper now
both machines have recorded two albums since then and completed all editing
and the mixdowns did and will are happen on a Mac HD TDM system
I didn't use any science and just went cheap.
40, 60, 80 gig ... who cares.
there is more important things to spend money on.
PT 6.4 LE will let you have more than 32 tracks in the session ... but only hear 32 as you have 32 voices.
They have both recorded live as well ... 16 tracks for 40 minutes ... or was it two sets at 20 minutes ... ??
I did have a spare system drive fully loaded with XP and PT as a spare/backup for the live recordings
