I bought the SPL SMC 2489 version for surround monitoring when it came out and I am very satisfied by its features and sound. Meanwhile the shape is not really fitting to the rest of my workbench, anymore, but it sits nicely in the second row, waiting for the next surround production.

What other products of SPL do you have Rainer? I want the PQ. SPL is such an excellent company, how popular are they at home Rainer?

SPL is truly a great company with excellent products.
As Hardware I have only 2 more besides the SMC 2489. That is the Vitalizer MKII, from the old days,
and the SPL PQ 2050 which is a class by itself. I think, you own the Passeq and that is a fine EQ, by all means.
But this PQ busts anything I ever had in my house. It is large and gets rather warm, but it can work wonders.
It has an enourmes headroom and dynamic range. But all this is amply described in several laudations in the magazins.
If you hear it, the only thing that keeps you from chaining it to your fob chain is its weight of roughly 18 kg...lol ..

I must admit, that I got it under rather lucky circs. Otherwise, it had been too expensive with a price tag at 10.000 Euro, although worth every cent. This thing is ultimately addictive ....

Great to hear you have the PQ. Its on my 2012 wish list.

To side rail my thread, but keep it on SPL. I wonder how the plugin Passeq compares to the hardware? I'm guessing more people on your side of the planet have already done comparisons? If you hear anything, please share.
We're going to see a mass extinction of analog gear users who talk about this all. Its a no brainer to me.

One thing we won't see become a plugin is a monitor controller :)

I have not tested the Passeq plug, yet, although I have downloaded it when I got the release note.
Somehow, work all cramps up the closer x-mas holidays come. I wished I could jump the ship for a month at the caribbean.
But you can download the demo, yourself, and judge it against your lovely hardware Passeq.

Guess what: I just got a localization job offer over a TV serial (20 at 1 hour per month).. which I can't do.
My place is not big enough for that...

I may be joining you one day. Do you use the digital automation a lot and/or would the recording version be sufficient? Does the link mode work better on the mastering version / would that be as precise with the recording version?
