Hi, I'm buying a compressor and I'm gonna use it for tracking of vocals and acoustic guitar. It will sit between my preamp and my DAW.

I think the TC Triple-C (mono version) sounds like a great deal considering it's on sale here in Sweden for $180 (list price in the reviews is stated to $700). It's got good reviews (see links below).

Apart that it's supposed to sound very good, I can use the SPDIF digital out from the comp into my Echo Mia soundcard. I also like that there are level meters on in- and out- levels as well as on gain reduction.

BUT, MY MAIN CONCERN: Yes it is a digital compressor, havn't I really missed the point if I'm getting this one? The reason to really use a comp before my soundcard input is to make it easier to record at low noise and not clip my soundcard A/Ds. If I use this comp it seems like I just move the same problem to the A/Ds of the compressor and I will still have to lower the preamp gain in order to not clip the comp A/D. If this is the case it seems like I could record without compressor and then use a comp plugin afterwards in the DAW.

Cheers

I think you've provided your own refutation. For a tracking compressor, I would think you would want something analog that brings your input signal level under a little bit of control, maybe with the option of adding some desireable coloration as well.
