Hi all,

I'm a seasoned beginner recording enthousiast.
And I've already recorded several band: rock, jazz and choirs

Now I'm asked to record this trio which consists of bass, vocals and notebook. Their style is poppy alternative dance, think Moloko, Morcheeba.
I'm pretty sure the bass and vocals will come out fine, I know what to look for and all.

What I'm unsure about is the notebook player, let's call him Joe.
Joe plays using Ableton Live 6, partly sequenced, partly live (keys and mixing in the box)
He has a soundcard with 4 outs + spdif, so 6 channels max.

I've seen/heard them playing live and my main concern is the balance of all the stuff Joe generates: drums, percussive fx, pads, leadsynth, etc.
So simply recording a stereo out from Joe is not an option I feel.

So how do I approach recording a band like this with a Joe with a notebook (or a Jack with a workstation synth for that matter)?

I'l be recording on a notebook with 8 inputs + spdif.
I need 2 inputs for vocals, and 1 for bass, leaving me 5 + S/PDIF for Joe.

Any suggestions anyone?

Cheers
