Hello.

I have an old G4 400Mhz which I was planning to use for pro tools m-powered together with the m-audio projectstudio i/o and one of the PreSonus firewire interfaces. I figure the 400Mhz are way not enough, so I'd like to upgrade. In light of current apple's decision to move to x86 platform, and outrageous speed of the current x86 systems, I have these options:

either upgrade it, for 650$, to an 1.8 ghz G4 (however, the machine would still be a 100Mhz bus speed relic of the past, with IDE hdds, slower firewire...)

or buy a 3.0 ghz AMD64 system for 700$ (much faster bus speed, SATA drives, a faster firewire interface, including a new HDD, 4 times the G4s RAM, ... )

or even buy a new G5 (impossible, I don't have the budget)

So... I guess it all boils down to how good (stability, not speed) the pro tools m-powered run on the x86 platform. In my experience applications (take melodyne, for example) run much more stable on a mac than on a PC...

Thanks,
Bojan.
