This is a tough area to do good in virtually. There is stuff by Chris Hein, Ministry of Rock from EastWest Quantum Leap, Lyrical Distortion from Aaron Dirk, and probably many more. You might do a search at northernsounds.com or register and post over there for more info. Your best bet by far though is to use the talent of even a marginally good guitar player vs using a vst for this kind of thing. Good luck.

I am a guitarist and have never heard a synthed guitar that even remotely resembled anything real. Maybe there are some that were so good I couldn't tell just never was around a midi generated one even though I know two extremely talented keyboardists, one who is a sax player and can nearly recreate a decent sax sound on a KOrg Triton with a pitch wheel, but not guitar.

Iv heard samples of tracks done with a guitar VST, Meshuggah-esque. Can't quite remember where the forum was though. Guitar and drums were both controlled by MIDI.

Programs like Virtual Distortion is what I was looking for guys! Still don't know if that's compatible with MIDI tho!
