here's my dilemma. i have all the parts for my ANUS. i ordered everything for a complete build. but i also have a couple items from my previous pc that might be worth putting in my ANUS (ouch).
in particular i have an adaptec dual channel ultrawide scsi card, a seagate 20gig ultrawide scsi drive, a Yamaha scsi CD-RW. my new ANUS parts list includes a maxtor 133 40 gig and 60 gig drive. here are my (best) choices as i understand them:
i can get a raid card and set up the 2 maxtor drives as raid 0 as Opus has described in previous threads. put my IDE plexter CDR on one IDE channel and my CDRom on the other. (am i understanding correctly that the bios sees the raid card like a scsi device and will let me boot from there?).
or
in addition to the above raid setup i can install the scsi card, HD and CDRw instead of the IDE CD-RW. aside from more disk space i'm not sure what else i would gain. the CD-RW speeds are close(the plextar ide is 24x the Yamaha scsi is 16x).
i guess the real questions are can i have a raid and a scsi card on the same board? is there a better config that i'm not seeing? i don't have the raid card yet. is it worth getting? it is worth the addional bucks to get the ATA133 raid as opposed to the ATA100 raid cards. help me pleeeeeze. i'm so confused :confused: .

ok, but. the scsi card/drive is of the ultra variety which has a 20MB/s transfer rate. would i not get a better tranfer rate if i went with perhaps an ATA133 controller (non-raid) and ran my wave data from the drive attached to it? running the OS drive off the MOBO primary IDE and CDRom off of the MOBO secondary. maybe just leave the scsi where it is.

It really depends on your track count and track data(24/96 vs 24/48 etc etc...) Also if you plan on using a UAD power plugin card that will also affect your PCI bandwidth.
I highly reccomend OS and App drive on Primary by itself, CDRW on secondary all by itself(or in your case the CDRW on the SCSI)
Now, if you have a SCSI CDRW the hell with a CDROM device...no need for it at that point..put an extra ATA100 or 133 drive on the secondary so that it will get true ATA100 data throughput. Remember that IDE drives at 100 or 133 will only do constant 35MB/s throughput and speed bursts up to 80 or so MB/s...
Use the SCSI for your data and you will have a smoking machine!

If you have SCSI stay with SCSI..you can have a RAID and a SCSI
If you have SCSI stay with SCSI..you can have a RAID and a SCSI in the same system just bear in mind that you will start to lose PCI Bandwidth if you use both at the same time for heavy data while recording or playing audio back through the sound card. I don't reccomend booting from a SCSI or RAID card.
It's not predictable on the boot up nor the install using third party drivers.
Use the SCSI for your data and use the primary IDE as your OS drive and secondary IDE for your CDROM, hook the SCSI CDRW up to the SCSI chain.
