I didn't know if I should put this in the Vocal Booth or not. .move it if you wish.

If you are looking for a cool way to distort vocals ala Minstry, KMFDM, Marilyn Manson...etc... Instead of running the vocal out of the board and into a mic'd/distorted guitar amp. use Nigel (the amp emulator in the UAD-1 card). I've done this a few times and get a really kick ass sound that is easy to manipulate.

Hope this is something people like!

Another trick I like is to use an AT4047 with open-backed headphones. If the vocal is fed directly to the phones (not software return) and just below feedback level, you get a wonderful distorted-valve type of sound on the sibilants and breathy part of the voice. If you compress the crap out of it, breathing sounds are cool too.
Compression should be done after the recording.
Doesn't seem to work as well with any other mic I've tried though.
