No plug ins,,,,,Im looking into a rack mount.
Ive been doing some research on TL Audio EQ1 or EQ2.
Apparantly,,,the engineers that worked on Pink Floyds Division Bell ,used the TL Audio EQ1 with outstanding results on instrumentation and vocals.

I got a qoute from folks around youre neck of the woods "Alto Music"---there asking $3400.00 for the Massive Passive :o    .
Have you ever used one of Manelys Pultecs?

I've gone through a small stack of EQ's over the last several years and I finally stuck with the Crane Song Ibis. Amazingly transparent when you need it and sickeningly colorful *by control* if you desire it.

In fact, I liked it SO much that I wound up selling the rest of the lot including the Massenburg.

Although as many of you know, I sound like a Crane Song commercial quite often... But IMO, they can almost do no wrong. So the Ibis doesn't surprise anyone I'm sure.

Plugs though... UAD's Precision EQ has got to be one of the coolest sounding EQ's - analog or digital - that I've ever used.

dito, and it's part of the UAD-1, simply superb, plus some of the other plugs that shipp with the UAD-1 like the 1176LN, LA-2A or Fairchild are really, really good and useable, too.

i don't want to praise "software" but for the money the quality of sound plus not taking any of your host CPU power, the UAD-1 is outstanding...

any other quality step up, will cost you minimum 4000-5000 dollar or more.
the UAD-1 as Massive Passive said is worth just the EQ and is about a grand.
and for a grand is shurely no better EQ around. neither outboard nor software. or buy a Weiss

do not compare mixing and mastering....

mastering eq's generally has to be cleaner than mix eq's

Never heard of alto music. If they're in brooklyn, be careful. there seems to a lot of scam places there for some reason.

I don't consider plugins bad. they can be quite powerful. I built a little video editing suite in my apt and It's powered by plugins. The only hardware is an SM7 running into a joemeek VC3. I monitor on M-audio studiopro 4's and it works ok, but then again I'm not making any money on most of it.

I purchased my Manely Vari Mu from Alto music------best price,,,,I found used ones on e-bay,,,but I figured that for 200 bucks more,I could get a brand new one.http://www.altomusic.com.

There's a really, really good reason for that.

Totally honest - If someone said that I could only use processing from one company, I could go from conversion to EQ to compression and limiting, all the way through the monitoring controller - using nothing but Crane Song gear and be perfectly happy.

Actually, if I had a HEDD unit (which is on my list for this year) I actually *could* have an "all Crane Song" chain...

It's so wonderful, I'll even translate it for the producer-types:

That shite is dope, yo. Word.

Tough question, depends what you are looking for. Pultec, well not for precision or surgical operation. Best is getting at least 2 imo, I dont know one fits for all.
