i've posted this in the "audio projects" forum before, but only one person would answer (thanks Remy!)
i'm producing a CD for a greek singer, which will hopefully end up in stores in greece. i did everything myself, songwriting, performing, recording and mixing (you can read the whole story in my first post on "audio projects"). for demonstration purpose i also tried to master it, though we'll have it mastered by a pro ME (anybody interested? ;-) ) .
i'd like to know what you ME's think about it, cause i will be mastering my own songs in the future (yeah, i know, but i'm doing this for fun), how do you like the sound? can it compete with commercial productions?
and will a pro ME make a big difference? (well some of you probably will! :D )

it's supposed to be this way. there's gonna be some child chanting or talking on the glockenspiel at the end and this will be the last song on the cd.
the whole album will be 10 songs plus an orchestral intro and an electronic short instrumental. lyrics-wise it will be a concept album in greek.
this is one of the quieter, softer songs. most are quite heavy, but very melodic, mainly guitar driven with acoustic and electronic sounds, but also with lots of piano and orchestration. it has quite a wide dynamic range, since heavy parts often change with quiet ones.
while mastering i tried to get a good "contemporary" level, without squashing it too much, to retain that dynamic range. i know that most of you hate squashed masters, and i agree, but i think you have to obtain a certain level especially with heavy rock music. but of course the overall sound quality is the most important issue.
do you think it's too much? for me it feels right regarding the level.
but again, i'm not a pro.
the vocals will take a while, but the singer will fly over soon to record.
still, any suggestions, critiques and accolades :D are welcome!
