I've found the CIB to sound and work identically to the channel strip with the exception of having a 'hardware' compressor as opposed to the 'software driven VCA dynamics' [virtual dynamics].

As much as I prefer to mix on 9098i's over damn near everything else, I don't always have that luxury. By bringing a couple of the CIB's with me, they've saved my ass on several occasions, both in tracking as well as mixing.

It is a really well made tool, the equalizer is too die for sonically and functionally.

Your mileage probably won't vary a whole hell of a lot from that... ;)

Wich aspect of the CIB saved your ass???
I mean: what could it do, that the other tools were not capable of doing??

Just tried the 9098 racked dual-pre and EQ-pre yesterday for the first time... I was really inpressed.

but I definitely put a 9098 EQ/PRE on top of my list!
The funny thing was that the guy from the studio did not like it as much as I did. He liked his Focusrite Red EQ's and PRE's more... (and I've never been a big fan of those...)
I asked him about the GLOW and the SHEEN buttons in the EQ section of the 9098, but he could not tell me what they did, because he never used them.
So I did... and I did like it alot...
I don't know what these buttons do, but I like what they do :D
He didn't seem to care :confused:

He wants 1250 dollars for it... Seems like a good price to me... Is it??

Mostly the equalizer, but the compression has come in very handy on several occasions. The 'MM' button [Much More] can actually give it a wonderfully aggressive edge when combined with the equalizer. The side chain capabilities of the EQ to the compressor have been damned helpful, and the equalizer alone is just fucking awesome. I think the CIB sounds more like the 9098i desk than the 9098 rackmount units [confusing ain't it]...but if you can nail a 9098 outboard unit for $1,250...I'd have to say 'jump on it'.

I have 2 9098 EQ/Mic Pre's. The first one I bought new for about $1,750 USD. I liked the EQ so much I wanted another :) and was able to find a used one out of a Mastering Studio for $1,350 and thought that was a hell of a deal. I would definitely jump on the unit for $1,250. Oh, and the Mic Pre will pass the signal faithfully. Let us know if you pick it up>
