Hey, I've already bought an action camera and I plan on using it but its sound recording quality isn't too good. I was wondering if anyone knows a microphone that is small not too expensive and has good sound quality. I wan't to be able to record the background noises too, like a waterfall or people talking in the background. If anyone knows a good mic that would be sufficient for this please reply, thanks.
By the way, I am using the Contour +2 as my action cam.

No, very few, in fact. Most professional shotgun microphones need phantom power (48V) from the pre-amp they are plugged into. Your camera does not provide phantom power, nor even the cheaper plug-in power (around 6V), so any condenser mic for use with your camera must either have its own internal power or you have to use a battery power pack between the microphone and the camera (inconvenient when shooting mobile).
There are not many reasonable quality camera-mount microphones that have their own internal battery, but the Rode Videomic (and also the Rode Videomicro that dvdhawk mentioned) do.
