I hope I've got the right place (don't want to post in the wrong area). I'm a massive fan of Rice's work and write some pretty similar stuff. I know he used a mobile DAW, but I'm not sure what signal chains etc he used. Incidently, if anyone knows a way to get the fab guitar and vocal sounds he achieved, I'd love to know. Hey, I love Damien also. I haven't seen anything on his gear, but he did mention something about having a portable recorder (I presume a DAW of some kind), and having simple but great sounding mics. Whatever that means!
He would then record whenever he felt inspired, wherever he was. So, I assume the sound of the CD has a great deal to do with the sound of the rooms he was in (houses, apartments, whatever).
I like the sound of it, and it's not overproduced for sure.
