I need an update from all the Pointmen on what's going on with the files. I emailed Mark Owen yesterday to get my Radar files for my mixes, and he still doesn't have any.

Where are we at with all this?

Not a pointman, but, as a datapoint...

I had asked for CD's of 3 of the tunes to mix, with London Towne being my officially designated choice. So far, I've still not received anything. Not London Towne, not UFO, not She's the Man. All pointmen have said they would send me the CDs, so I assume it's just one of those things that is taking time for them to get around to it. Correct me if I'm wrong here guys.

i woulda hoped the US folk woulda had theirs already...they went out last week. oh, except for Bills', which went to his old addy. my connection at DHL got laid off :( , so it may take a little longer for the 2 Euro-folks to get theirs...

and i made sure to include the prerequisite apology for slowness of delivery etc...i suck.

Hey, just a note here. We sent out the Musicplayer compilation CD Monday a week ago, and I still haven't gotten mine, while Jules in London and others around the planet have theirs. I think we're kinda stuck with slow package mail right now, and we'll just have to live with it.

Anyone mixing Blatchford should have their files, either from DL or CDR - including the Euros. Aside from 1 tech glitch between Mac & PC I believe everyone is working already. If this is not the case please contact me.

I spoke w/ Mark Owen last week & sent him a CD to do the transfers for "drumsound" & yourself.
Regards,
Tony

OK, but I've looked for the D/L URL and haven't found it. Would you mind posting it again? From an experience point of view I want to mix as many as I can, but I don't need to be in any money-costing situations like mailing CDs. So if there's a URL I'd appreciate it.

Mine showed up a coupla days ago. Thanks for the generosity (the "extras"). There is a problem with the CD-R I got, however. Several, actually. I'll email you to spell out the details, but generally the tracks come out scrambled. Some are intact, others are really just the last part of some other track concatenated with the first part of yet another track, with some glitch of a few samples (probably non-audio data) between them. I mention this in case others have the same problem. Believe it or not, I think I might be able to fix them (with a lot of tedious effort), except I might end up with a missing track or two. But there are so many to begin with -- who would notice? :)

Having listened to the entire album (_On Water_) from which London Towne was taken, I can see now that this song does not stand alone but is very much one piece of a larger work. Ideally, it should be mixed with the entire production in mind. But for the purposes of this exercise, anything goes! That album is rather diverse; a lot of different sounds in there. Impressive in scope, especially to have been put together by the two of you. Must have been a heckuva lotta work. I'll save the remaining comments for private message.

By the way, I tried my hand at downloading the UFO files (shhh, don't tell anybody) and had some difficulty reading them (my version of CEP would abort each time it got to the very end while reading in a WAV file -- probably a bug in CEP), so I got around this by pushing the "cancel" button just at around the 98% mark on the progress bar for each WAV load. Fortunately, there was enough space at the end of each track that I think I got everything I needed. Well, except that I threw out the hihat track by accident (doubt I would have needed it). Anyway, UFO seems to have been rather well recorded and almost mixes itself.
By contrast, London Towne (and apparently the entire On Water album) are heavily "produced" in the mixdown. Since I'm a total beginner at this, it has been educational for me to try to approximate the UFO mp3 mix just to see what might have been done to mix it originally. Very interesting. This is turning out to be a splendid and worthwhile experiment for me, as I expected.

I would love to get more details on how these songs were tracked (mic/pre/compressor chains, guitar rigs, etc.).
