i record in 10'x15' room in my apt and it has lots of reflections. i want to minimize the amount of reflected sound my mics pick up and was wondering if anyone can suggest any cheap techniques they like to use to do deal with this.
primarily, i record vox, guitar and hand percussion.
right now i plan to buy a rug (i have hardwood floors - and this is as much for my downstairs neighbors as it is for me...) and i read an article on "blanket baffling" (link below). has anyone ever heard of tried or tried this blanket baffling technique?

Uhh...the boominess you're getting now is likely a result of standing waves. You should be worried about them - they're a far more invasive set of problems than early reflections. Especially in a room this size.

Being in an upstairs apartment has many issues just by the building design. So having a better understanding of what you are trying to do and some real applications is a benefit.

For a smaller room like that, you can spend all of your life and most of your money (or perhaps the other way around) trying to treat it to get it to work. Once you tame the first and possibly second reflections, you now encounter massive bass modes within the room that will freak everything else out. So, then you wind up with a thin but dull sound....it never ends.
However, if you're mic'ing a source very closely (such as a guitar cab at 3"), it won't make a difference. You'll still piss your neighbors off, but hey...do you like them anyway?
It's not all bleek and doom. Let us know some more details and I'm sure we can give you some help.
