Late reflection - Reflected energy that occurs a greater distance away from the source than an early reflection. Sometimes referred to as “slap-back” or echo.

Grating, reflection phase - An acoustical diffraction grating to produce diffusion of sound

Early reflection - Reflected energy that occurs in close proximity to the source but is slightly out of synchronization (time / phase) with the source information.

This doesn't apply to the studio so much in my case because I'm a field recordist but is there a list some where of the amount of sound reflection of surfaces (of all kinds) ? I recorded some heavy equipment today and later I realized that part of the reason the sound was as loud as it was is because the machines were surrounded on three sides by three store brick buildings.

I'm dealing with some issues with pretty bad reflections in my recording spot. I'm currently using a walk in closet to get most of my main songs down. The problem is I'm recording in a closet and the second problem is this closet isn't the best for recording in.

Hey guys, just wondering what your opinions are on these? Would I be better off trying to build my own contraption or buying one prebuilt?
