In trying to get a handle on DC offset, I seem to be coming up with more questions than answers.

I have found that the Audiosuite DC offset plugin in Pro Tools seems to do nothing to center the waveform. It offers no control over any parameters, and once a track/waveform/file has been processed, the DC offset remains. Am I missing something obvious here?

When using Adobe Audition as a mono/stereo editor, I am given the option of entering a percentage of offset by which to correct. While this works in shifting the waveform, I find that 0, or the actual center line of the waveform, is shifted by the amount of offset entered. My theoretical solution in my head tells me that only the waveform should be shifted, not the center line. Am I incorrect in thinking this way, or is this the only way to shift a waveform?

Are there any solutions that could/would lie in the physical process of loading the material into my DAW (digi001 running on a Sony VAIO)? In other words, what issues should I be aware of and take into consideration regarding signal flow/path, connections, and power? How is DC offset introduced into the signal going into the computer?

I did a search here before posting but couldn't find any relevant info, so a big thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I use an 828 and a high quality API style mixer. I find that if I push the mixer and pad the 828 (with the front panel pot) I loose the tops of my waveforms and get DC offset. Maybe try running your Digi001 fully open and not working your amps so hard. I found this to help a lot, at least in my setup.

You may need to knock down some peaks to get your DC offset to work. It is trying to find the center and peaks might get in the way of it.

I cannot imagine that ANY soundcard, let alone a digi001 would not have an AC coupled input. This should theoretically kill any DC from the source (mixer or whatever you plug into it), although ideally you do not want any DC from your source either. It sounds to me like there might be something wrong with your digi001. How much DC offset are we talking? how do you know you are looking at a DC offset problem anyways, what does the waveform look like?
