I have a P3-500, 256mb RAM,
SB Live Plat. sound card and 2x20gig 7200rpm hd's.
I'm having latency issue and overall processing bugs as of late. Here's why I think...
I recently put the 2nd HD into my comp.(thinking I would speed things up)programs and OS on the first hd, wave/audio files on the 2nd hd. I read Opus's article on building your own pc that mentioned using serperate cables for each HD to plug into the processor. Aside from doing this, can a second HD bog down my processor in other ways? How can I configure things for speed? I format my hd's about 4xs a year. Since my last format/installation, my processor seems to choke quite quickly now. I've installed the appropriate ASIO drivers but am afraid they may not be set up right. Is there a test for this? I've have friends with similarly powered computer that can crunch out multiple audio tracks while utilizing plugins. Any suggestions? Lastly, When use 2 programs together like Reason and Cubase, my computer packs it's bags and leaves town. Do I have enough power with what I've got or is it time I went bigger and badder?
Regards,
Michael

I have a feeling you need to turn DMA on for that new har drive! If on windows 98 go to your device manager..disk drive..open the second hard drive and go to properties or advanced settings and make sure DMA is turned on..checked in other words..if it's not checked..check it and restart..that should take care of that!
