8pre suddenly won't boot
Forums
I have an old MOTU 8pre Firewire I got on the cheap that was working great. Been using it as an ADAT converter to add 8 channels to my 18i20. Today I wanted to try reducing latency by increasing the sample rate to 48khz. While fiddling with it I power cycled it and now after the "sparkle" animation it just displays the word "UP" on the LED display and outputs noise over optical and doesn't r

Silent computer?

What do you do about noise from your computer (fans, coil whine, HDD spinning and writing) getting into your quiet recordings? Obviously, SSDs are a way to prevent HDD access noise. What about the other issues?

Recording Music Using a Multitrack Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorder
Forums
The subject of our next webinar, on aspects of tape and reel-to-reel recorders, is recording using a multitrack tape recorder. From 4 to 24 tracks tape is back in the studio, so we at Reel Resilience thought we'd better talk about it! More information about the webinar, who we are at Reel Resilience and how to book, can be found here.

API releases new "Select" line of gear
Forums
Looks like API is offering up some new gear models, including a tube pre, and tube compressor. I was surprised how "reasonable" the prices were, and am particularly interested in the stereo 4 band, parametric equalizer. Not sure how they sound but API knows good audio, so my expectations are that they are good.
check em out at their site.

I just discovered Emeli Sante. I had heard the name but her music had passed me by. On the radio I heard a track, and Shazammed it. I think it will be a great one for a friend of mine to sing - so I jumped into an arrangement of it - perhaps with the intention of doing it live in a theatre idea we have had on the simmer since pre-covid .

This weekend's project - will it work, or won't it?
Forums
We get quite a bit of work because we work across technical boundaries - We're working for a well known client next week who is putting his comedy show out on a streaming platform - so it's lights, sound (recording and PA) and video - we won't edit - just provide the services on the day of the shoot.
