I have a small home studio and I am looking to purchase my first high-end mic . It will be running directly into the preamps on my Apogee Duet interface. I will use it mainly for recording my Taylor GS5 and Vocals and will occasionally use it for piano as well. I have about 1000$ to spend and I am looking for the best mic.

Does this mic sound as good as the other versions? I have a chance to get a pair cheap! I no its a good deal but I was wondering if there are any other versions out there that are better and more versatile than this one that I can buy new. Are the remotes and leds the only difference? Im going to be using them for every imaginable source and genre.

Hey there!

Can someone tell me what the difference between the current c 414's are. There are the B-xl II, B-XLS. Is one better than another? I was interested in buying a pair but not sure which one to go with?

Thanks

As I've been getting asked this question a lot recently, what the heck, I'll post up the 1st thread...

Several guys have been asking me about getting a C414, and whether it's a good investment, or a decent mic.

My response has been, that every good mic locker has at least a pair of them.

Just got the AKG C414B XL11 should i update my signal chain?

So basically since i purchased this mic (in shipping) it's had me thinking about my signal chain and if
my other components will hold back quality? Signal chain right now is Shure KSM27 mic,Custom made XLR
with starquad sheilded cable with neutric XLR connectors, into MOTU 828mk2 then recorded into Logic Pro 8.0.2

Which AKG 414 should I buy?

[Note, I also posted this on the ProAudio forum; if against the rules please delete this one.]

(Note: I'll only consider new mics.)
C 414B-XLS is flatter - which I want.
C 414B-SLII has a rise for vocals.
Either can be bought in a matched stereo pair.

I thought I had decided on the XLS matched pair, for $1,999 per four online sources.
