Emu 1212m 1616m or PreSonus Firebox

I am recording with the PreSonus Firebox and it sounds decent. I am sort of coming to the conclusion that AD converters contribute more to a truly professional sound than a preamp or mic once you overcome a certain ultra budget level. Basically, the first component I might want to upgrade are my converters and then go from there. Emu coverters seem to be of a higher quality than the Firebox.

S/PDIF problem with E-MU 1212m HELP!

I'm trying to connect my dbx 386 tube preamp to my E-MU 1212m sound card using S/PDIF. I've bought the proper cable to use and connected it from the dbx 386 S/PDIF out to the 1212m's S/PDIF in. I've messed with the session settings in the 1212m's Patchmix, but I still can't get any sound on my computer to come in from the S/PDIF in. What am I doing wrong that I can't get it to work?

Need help deciding b/w Lynx L22 and E-mu 1212m

I am thinking of buying a card for my PC to use with Ableton Live and have been looking at the Lynx L22 and the E-mu 1212m.
Both apparently have the same AD to DA converters and the E-mu has midi and a few other extras that the Lynx does not have, eg on board DSP and is half the price.

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the two cards or had an experience with either?
