essential knowledge or skills needed to be successful in recording?
I am writing an essay for class on how to be successful in recording, and I would love to get some information or experiences from any one who would like to help!
(Don't feel like you need to answer all these questions, anything helps!)
Questions:
What would you say are the essential knowledge or skills needed to be successful in recording?
Mic essential for recording SFX outside?
So I am looking to "slowly" build an arsenal of mics for recording SFX mostly outside, where the environment is obviously not controlled.
This is mostly for my own personal use, but the hope is to eventually be able to use or design things for commercial use in the future. I am new to this, so any and all suggestions are welcome...

Loading Cubase SX3 files in Essential 4?
Hi all, hopefully someone can help me.
I've been given the opportunity to purchase Cubase Essential 4, but I have previously been using SX3. I found a file compatibility chart that says that I cannot open SX3 files in Essential 4, but I also saw somewhere else that said it's possible to open the files, but I'd lose some data.
Can anyone clarify on this?
Thanks.

Essential PT’s LE Plugins
There is a plethora of plugins out there for pro-tools LE users to wade through, some of them are very useful and creative and some are not. Here’s a list of my “must have” plugins. The ones that I feel are indispensable and that I use on almost every session. Please feel free to add to this list or comment as you see fit. Enjoy…

Has anyone seen Cubase Essential 4?
I think that Cubase Essential 4 might be where I want to go after I've taken Audacity as far as it goes.
One of my biggest concerns is to have a clean screen. I can't work with dark screens; especially low-contrast dark screens stuffed with tiny controls. It's like having to deal with people who mumble instead of speak. It's a pain and it makes things harder than they need to be.

Essential rack gear?
I'm purchasing a compressor soon as was wondering how big of a rack I should I get and what other gear would you consider essential for tracking? I just want a small, portable setup so I can also do on location work. Thanks.

Steinberg WaveLab Essential Mastering Software $99
For anyone interested, Musicians Friend has Wavelab Essential for $99. It goes for $199 everywhere else I've seen. I would get it fast because it apprears to be a scew up on their part.
Wavelab Essential Mastering
I'm not a sound engineer and therefore I do plan on taking my finished project to a professional to be mastered.
However, with music being my growing hobby, I do want to invest the time and money (self-education) in learning more about the mastering process.
