format

Years ago I was fortunate enough to record a few songs using a professional reel-to-reel machine. It was an Otari MTR-90 2 inch 24 track. I have since used high quality converters from RME, Lynx, and Apogee. Although, they were all extremely adequate "especially the Lynx", they never seemed to give me the same realistic top-end or BIG sound that the Otari recorder did.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but I need some help as I've asked around and no one seems to know what's wrong.

Basically, I have Nuendo 4 with Asio4All as the driver. I have this both on my Surface Laptop and my Desktop. My Surface works fine, everything's good. My desktop. not so much.

I am getting rid of an old workstation which has an internal Exabyte 8mm tape drive. Would anyone have a use for it?

I am fighting an old Akai S3000. It seems to be working fine but I can't figure out how to format a 3.5" floppy. I have the instruction manual which shows a screen that you get when you push the FORM soft key, but I can't find how to make the FORM label come up.

btw, existing floppies load just fine so the drive is ok. and yes, I have checked the write protect.

You read it well. The major labels plan to abandon the CD-format by the end of 2012 (or even earlier) and replace it with download/stream only releases via iTunes and related music services. The only CD-formats that will be left over will be the limited edition ones, which will of course not be available for every artist.

I want to post links to some mixes here so you guys can tear them apart and give me some objective criticism on production/engineering. I'd just like to know what the best format/hosting site (hopefully free!) is to use. They all probably use some sort of lossy codec(?) but what is the preferred method that everyone can live with?

I'm still but a babe in the audio world, so needless to say I'm still growing into and learning to operate the gear I've got...but like any good gear nerd, I like to plot and plan for the future. My current thoughts are to buy a 10 slot lunchbox and gradually start adding 500 series preamps (probably some by Vintech and/or api but i'll leave that for another discussion).

I need to record and "save" a voice over recording in this file format:

MUST be recorded in the following format;
8KHz, 8-bit, mono, A/mu-Law (*.wav) format.
If you right-click and view the properties of the file, the Summary tab will show “Audio format” CCITT u-Law.

I do a little low budget mastering from time to time. :redface: Generally this means polishing up home studio productions for myspace, or for small scale duplication, and I have been happily laying out CDs using CD Architect.
