Grounding issues around pro audio electronics

Grounding issue with laptop power cable/guitar

Hi,

I have a macbook pro laptop and my audio interface is the Apogee Duet 2. Whenever I plug my guitars into the Apogeeinterface I've got a hum going on. I can get rid of the hum if I take out my laptops power cable however I then have an issue of the laptop overloading frequently (not running at full capacity without power cable) and running out of battery without the power cable.

Apogee duet 2 hum / grounding issue?

Hi I have an Apogee Duet 2, using garageband on macbook. Whenever I run my guitar through XLR or instrument input I have a very loud hum that does not go away unless i put my hand on bare foot on the apogee. Its becoming annoying playing guitar with my foot on the thing any advice on how to sort this out?

Watkins Copicat grounding

Hello everyone,

I just bought a Copicat ic300 and it has a 2 core mains wire which means it's not grounded. I've had a look around the web but can't find instruction on how to ground it. Can anyone help? is it just as simple as replacing the 2 core to 3 core and connecting the ground to the case? or is there more to it (ie, inputs need grounding)?

Thanks in advance.

Deciding what way to troubleshoot background hiss or grounding problem...

So, I have been working over the past couple of years intermittently trying to record both my guitar, and lately my voice, using my laptop and audio interfaces. I have always run into the same problem: background hiss and white noise.

Direct Injection box Grounding Theory

In a properly wired DI box, the shield of the unbalanced connection is wired to pin 1 of the XLR. Since the shield is signal-bearing, this would induce a voltage over pin 1 of the XLR line. A ground lift switch breaks this connection, but why would you want it to begin with? Wouldn't you always want your ground to be at 0V, and not carry a voltage during normal operation?

Grounding Problems w/Rack

I have slowly over the yrs ended w/a bunch of cool FX but now when I turn them on w/a Furman PC I get a loud thump. Some of the FX have 3 prong and some 2prong.Before I start ripping it all down any advice.Could I have a bad cap to ground etc.How does a studio keep it OK. Here a list,1)furman 2)Soho 4 tube preamp,3)ART Pitch tranposer/multFX.
