Picking Mics - adventures in M/S
Hey guys, I asked a similar question a while back, but was looking for some advice on mics. I currently have a selection of dynamics and a pair of AKG 451b's. I was looking to get a new pair of mics to play a bit more with stereo. I especially want to experiment with M/S recording techniques.

Shopping for a new pair of Mics
OK
I'll be rewarding myself for some hard work in the end of this year with a Christmas present: a new pair of mics (some disposable income from the last gigs) and I'm eyeing a pair of Audio-Technica that would fit the bill: 4040 or 4033 what do you think would be a better pair as a multi purpose mic?

Drums room mics - too much cymbal
hello.
I'm having an enormouse problem getting a drum sound at the moment. I generaly don't like to use too much close Micing but end up having to because I can't deal with the noise from the cymbals any other way. Lots of ride required. Room is smallish 15x12 and has quite a low ceiling.
I used to have foam on the ceiling but this got taken down when I re decorated.

Question about Earthworks mics
I heard that Earthworks use cheap Panasonic electret capsules in their mics and then add very good preamps. Is that true?

Omni mics for piano
Which small diaphragm omni mics would you suggest for classical piano recording? My price range $700, but at the moment I would prefer going lower. I would not mind getting second hand ones. So far I was looking into:
Oktava MK012 from Sound-Room
Superlux CMH8K
Akg C451 with CK2, or CK22
Akg Blueline with CK92

Dynamic mics for recording vocals
Hi,
To make a long story short... I was recently on a forum where someone stated that they were having problems getting a good sound recording vocals with a Shure sm57... a few replies offered different mic suggestions, but a few also suggested a better preamp...

Sebatron vmp-2000 or Great River 2NV? and mics
I'm searching for a high quality first mic preamp. I've gone back and forth after reading tons of articles/reviews on various pres and getting recommendations from other similar sites. I had things narrowed down to the 2NV, but out of nowhere, Sebtron popped into my life. It seems people love the thing. Any thoughts on better value?

Dynamic mics 4 ac. guitar
At times, I'd like a less focused sound out of my acoustic guitar than the SRO's and NT1000 gives me.
Any suggestions for good quality dynamics that work well on steel string acoustics?
seems like some cad and sennh. mics are well liked.

Inexpensive LD condensers as tom mics...
I have a project coming up where we've decided we're going to focus getting more of a 70's drum sound - direct micing, very little room sound. The tom mics I currently have don't really fit the bill, so I'm wondering if I should invest in some of the cheaper LD condensers - Marshall/MXL, perhaps. I've heard of some people doing this, but I'm not really sure which models.
