What do you think the Top 10 DIY Mastering Mistakes are?

Im using sonar, and whenever I set punch in/out I get a clicking sound at those points, when I overwrite the audio file.



How do I fix this? And how those this relate to Snap to grid function?



Im a complete newie at this, please help.

All of my tracks are composed of synths, VSTi's, vox and guitar, and always ITB. There is always a harshness to my completed work that I have trouble avoiding. I'm aware of it, always, and almost never boost any of my eq's.

I am getting ready to do my first mix, and I thought I would tap the wisdom of this forum. I know this is a broad question, but what newbie mistakes did you make when you first started mixing?



I would appreciate any advice on avoiding things that a newbie might otherwise overlook.

Do you ever find that only AFTER you are finished with a mix and are in no position to alter it that you begin to find flaws you would have undoubtedly changed? I find that although my recordings and mixes are progressively gaining in quality, there are somemtimes things i hear only AFTER i am in any position to change them. (i.e.

I'd love to know what the pro's here, consider the most common mistakes that they hear new and inexperienced engineers making. Also what's the worst recording of a big name act you've heard? Sorry if this has been discussed before. I did do a search, but it's a difficult one to get the right keywords for.
