need HELP with MBOX and Protools

I have never been more frusterated.

I can't get any volume from my mics. I've tried 2 mics (one condenser ksm27/one non sm57), used a preamp/not used a preamp, checked all levels, made sure that everything obvious has been tried. I've tried different cables, different configurations, and I just can't get more than 1/10th of a signal into my mbox (running Pro Tools 6.4 on OSX).

Pro Tools 6.4 w/Mbox 1 on mac HELP please

I am just setting up this studio for the first time, and I am having trouble picking up sound from the mic's. I am only getting a signal 1/10 of what it could be. I started using an SM57 and I thought "well, maybe its just the mic"; so I switched to my KSM27 condenser, turned phantom on, and still nothing (really). I checked all my levels and everything, everything looked good.

Help! How does mic preamp bypass mbox pre?

Forums

Should the output of my vipre go into an insert in the mbox? I just read this somewhere. I currently have it in the mic input with the mbox pre turned all the way to the left (down). Is that right? Should I choose 'line' as the input choice?
I hate hooking stuff up. I just like turning stuff on.
Thanks,
Steve

MBox 2 vs M-Audio Firewire 410

I just bought a powerbook so I could have a portable DAW setup. I'm going for a system that I can compose & track on, PT is a must and stereo mic inputs are a must. But here's my problem. I think the Bmox 2 looks like turd, and it's just the old Mbox with MIDI connections added. So I'm looking into getting M-Powered instead of LE, it seems I can get more for less that way.
