Micing drums?

I stopped recording about 8 years ago and just recently decided to get back into it. I have a decent set of drum mics but they do not include any "overhead" mics. I ended up using two large condenser mics that I normally use for vocals but what I'm finding is that the snare comes out really loud, not giving me much control over the SM57 I use directly on the snare.

Micing A Heavy Metal Drum Kit

This isn't so much a question, as an example of how I recently mic'ed a metal drum kit for a session.
All I was recording was the kit (minus a few scratch tracks), so my resources were plentiful.
Also, I am not mixing this project - my purpose was only to provide enough quality drum tracks for the mix engineer to work with.

Hi,

I am currently using PreSonus firestudio as my interface and was plesently surprised with the quality of the preamps/ converters within.
I also use Joemeek Twin Q Studio Channel as my main preamp for vocals etc.

I am looking to improve my signal path to Cubase as I am expanding my studio in an effort to go professional but on a budget.
