Volume Normalizer for wav Files?

Hi guys!

Some of you may have heard of a program called 'mp3 Gain', which allows you to balance the volume levels of your mp3 files so that they're all roughly the same. It doesn't remove the dynamics within each track (or each album even), but basically just allows you to control the general playback level of each file. Very handy tool, and I've been using it for years.

Normalize

Hi.I have read that after mixing to two tracks, before running the song thru the mastering software you should normalize the whole thing,is this the done thing, also during mastering are there any common compresson settings ie ratio, theshold, attack and release, that you would start at.thanks for any info. Jim. :)

To Normalize or Not, and 24 bit recording to 16 bit CD..

I have a couple simple questions I have never gotten a good response on...

1. Should I normalize tracks after I record them. Back in the day I normalized everything and I think I got some pretty good results. I have heard that normalization can introduce unwanted noise, but personally haven't run into that situation yet. If not, when should you normalize?
