Is the Panasonic DA7 a good or bad piece to have? What makes it good what makes it bad? If this is bad, what would you recommend?

i found this thread while searching for a way to use a digital mixing console as a pro tools controller.
the thing is,that some time ago, i found an article where a guy was using a Yamaha 01v mixer as a controller for pro tools by tweaking the midi commands the faders generating to match those of the digidesign's "command 8".

please advice about quality of this unit, i can buy this as recorder for my mixes. i use hardware samplers, analog mixer. i compose/produse electronic music - breaks/dub/ambient/experimental.

So I picked up one of these for $25. The tape compenent is fine, it loads, plays, rewinds and does it cleanly and quietly. My problem is that when I go to record, I get a loud screaming noise. It will produce it under any recording condition, even with the recording level at 0.

Anyone have any experience w/ this box?
