shure beta 52

I've been debating this with a friend. I'm pretty sure they're considered the same mic, but he thinks a 52A must be a rehash or a cheaper copy of a 52.

What's the deal?

What would you recommend using on the kick drum. I mostly going to record hard rock, metal styles. Recently i've been using pg52 and for metal i would always mic the beter with sm57. I think out of theese 3 options i need something with more bottom than click. Thank you.

Hi I was looking for a solid kick mic at a good price, hows the BETA 52 for a possible kick drum mic?
1. Has anyone used it and liked it?
2. Is it applicable for recording other instruments other than the kick drum?

so tell me what you guys think one vs the other I'm about to buy and I've had great experience with the D112 but I'd hate to miss out on a great mic just because the one might be more popular. Reviews seem to be pretty even. Thanks

Is there a large recording performance difference between the D112 and the Beta 52? I've heard lots of people recommending the D112.

I've only recorded with the D112. Sounds closed and EQ'd.

Hi all

I've just received a Shure beta52 (as a present :)
I already have the AKG d112.

I'm looking for pointers as to when (and why) to use one above the other

To me it seems the 52 is only for bass (kick & guitar)
The D112 seems also useable on tuba, trombone

Hope someone can give me some insight on this

I don't really like my Beta52a that much. I've tried every last bass drum...tuned, un-tuned, DW, Tama, Pearl. everything I can get my hands on and I can't get a decent kick drum sound coming into the board. My room live room and control room are both decent, my monitors are good, I think I can finally blame it on the mic or the pre's. Everything other than my kicks sound at least decent.
