I spent a lot of time today on my cello quest. In the end, I picked the SM57, and the Sennheiser e906 (mainly because I'd been using 3 of them for a Queen Tribute - and they did quite well on AC30 amps. I went with the AKG 414 and the U87.

For years now, all the images we see in the UK of the American president and other senior figures featured a pair of Shure SM57s on the lectern. I now see all sorts of strange microphones - so what has happened? Have Shure fallen out with the new administration?

I received and built a T12 as well. Here is a video showing it with other mics on a guitar
My T12 has a very pronounced proximity effect, but I think it's a nice addition to my collection.. Still trying it on different sources ;)

I used Metallica's very own vocal preamp and any mic I wanted to...the 57 won
I have a friend who works for SSE (sound engineer company in England who do festivals live sound)
My friend borrowed me two flight suitcases full of amazing mic's and also a dual channel preamp used by Metallica and also a lovely valve preamp.

Hi there just got Lexicon Alpha with Shure sm57, i used this vid here Lexicon Alpha - How to Record a Track in Cubase LE5 - YouTube to assist me so i think i have it setup correctly. So i can hear mic through headphones when plugged into alpha but when i try to record on Cubase it just picks up sound from in built microphone on my mac.
