do i use a dual conductor cable to wire my inserts on my console: tip send, ring return...do i just attach each conductor to its own connector? if so, TRS or ts on processor end? do i split the ground between both connectors? or do i need to wire it differently?
Greetings everyone! I’m having problems recording my guitar in stereo and hope someone can help me. It’s kind of a long (first) post but I hope you won’t mind.
Can it be hooked up for unbalance operation?
The reason I ask is that the 1/4" input is balanced but the 1/4" outputs are unbalanced.
I don't want to put a tip/sleeve into the balanced input without knowing.
I'm looking to send out a track from the console to the Destressor, back in to the console for play back.
How many folks solder their own cables? I do some soldering at work which gives me a little advantage and plan to reconstruct my studios' entire wiring. I'd like to get some insight from a few "Pros" because I'm new to using a patchbay. Actually, I think I need a couple of patchbays for that matter.
My question(s):
1) Should I opt to buy all balanced cables or just use balanced cables with gear that can make use of it?
2) Using balanced cables with gear that doesn't use it necessarily... any potential problems? (i.e. using a TRS/balanced cable with a synthesizer and patchbay)
... i like what i've heard about the m audio dmp3 mic preamp, and am wondering if i would have a problem running out of the balanced outs on the pre to the unbalanced ins on my audiophile 24/96 card using a quality 1/4 inch to rca cable?

I've received three of the four Switchcraft 52 point 1/4" TRS full normalled patchbays that I ordered and am in the beginnings of wiring my studio (up until now I've used Fostex PB48B balanced TRS patchbays). I've built my audio panels, had them punched and mounted the XLR & 1/4" TRS jacks.
i have a Mackie 1202 vlz pro i know you can use the inserts as direct outs but what kind of cable do you use? i thought you could use a TRS cable but i just called daddy's junk music and they said you need an "insert cable". what is the difference between the two and which one do i need?

I just hooked my brand new MU in today and I got a shocking suprize! I have it going direct in to the stereo incerts of a Mackie 32 channel mixer.
The cables are Monster 500 series XLR to ring tip sleeve and work fine for my Distressors.
