So I was so interested in the 1612 Tubes I got to play with... I started a hybrid design. The concept is a vari-mu style compressor using the 1612 as the front end after a Jensen XFMR. I am thinking of then running LA2 style buffer and driver amplifier into a Jensen output XFMR. But the side chain will be solid state and use either a LOG amp or a THAT audio engine..

Hi!

Ive read a few threads about changing the tubes on the ART Tubeopto 8. I got my hands on some vintage telefunken ecc83 smooth plates and I can’t wait to hear how these sound! Several of the threads I’ve found note that you need to remove the tube snubbers before you pull out the tubes and replace them after.

This video shows the process of changing tubes and comparing the before and after sound. I've did the mistake of recording with low gain to get the cleanest sound possible, before and after.. but it seems the sound is very similar but gets different with higher gain settings.. Anyway I hope it will be of interest to you nonetheless !

Let me know what you think !

Hi there,

I'm starting to check for a place I can thrust to buy tube kits for my 2 x LA-610.
Affordable and good sounding (dreaming here ;))
They are both mk1 and were buildt around the same year but actually don't sound the same.
I guess they have different tubes or different wear on them.

Any suggestions ?

I have two band new UA LA-2A, bought two sets of GE LP 12AX7 pair + RCA 12BH7, that were vintage new and matched and switched the stock LA-2A tubes out.

Was there a difference?

Help! Groove Tubes 6TM Power Supply cable Pin out schematic/ ADAT Elco to 1/4" snaKes

I have an old Groove Tubes 6TM mic with the PS1 Vacuum tube power supply. The mic end looks like the Groove Tubes EC7 cable in that it has a 7-pin connector. The power supply end looks like an 9-pin ADAT sync connector almost like a vga computer display connector. I am in need of the pin out configuration so that I can build one or a source to purchase one.
