Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. I have just been in a pro recording studio for the second time and my tracks have come back obviously compressed and sounding dull sound wise and fairly quiet... Do you know what I have to be saying back to the studio to get a louder, crisper sound? I know I am capable of a good, strong, crystal clear vocal so I am wondering why I sound crushed and dull.

@Boswell
Hi Bos.. ;)
I was wondering if perhaps you could help me to more easily understand what a "Zobel Network" is.
I've noticed this term mentioned in reading more about the ISA One mic preamp; and I've honestly tried to learn about this by reading various articles on line, and, well, I'm not getting it.

In my quest to understand more about recording I bought a textbook. This methodology has worked well for me in many situations. I picked up the 3rd Edition "Handbook of Recording Engineering" by Eargle. Chapter one has in a certain sense left me in the dust. I understand the material presented in a conceptual way.

I wrote a tutorial on the basics of microphones that covers quite a bit on the different categories, what they are and what they are generally used for. There is also a section on polarity patterns, powering options and other related things. Hopefully it can help some people that may have questions regarding mics, their uses and what type to choose in any given application.

What I don't understand about the K-system

I've read a lot on the web about the K-system of monitoring, metering and mixing/mastering. The K-system basically attempts to ensure that a finished song has at least 12dB of RMS headroom, right? So that the song sounds dynamic and lively, as opposed to squished, loud and generally Mastered for !tunes.
