Thanks for the kind words everyone. I hope this 1 example gives some of you a better idea of what pro mastering can do for a project.
Keep in mind the mastered version your hearing is an MP3. The 16bit PCM version sounds noticeably better. But your all going to have to buy the record for that!!

Great job, I can tell from my crappy headphones that it's a bit less muddy and sweeter. Oh yeah I matched the levels before listening, it's around 8 db louder. I still like the pre-mastered in terms of dynamics though.

What a cool song and I love the band's image. Pretty refreshing to see there's still a band out there that loves playing rock n' roll. When ya coming down to Florida for some gigs?

I say he used L2 and... let me get back on that later...

I don't have my notes in front of me but I can give you a basic idea of what I did. At first listen I noticed the low end was muddy. I spoke to Jeano and told him I felt the vocal was a little burried. This is common when mixing on small speakers. Its sounds fine on nearfieds because you don't hear it in proper context if there is a lot of low end which there was. So he did a vocal up mix and it helped a lot. Dynamically the instruments weren't really holding together as a big rock song needs. What I mean is the drums and guitar werent working together as well as I think they are now. I think this gives it a bigger more powerful sound. Some upper mid EQ to help the vocal and guitars have a better sense of space. I spent about an hour trying to get the eq just right. It was a little difficult because I alway's like to get good seperation with low end and kick drum. I had to fine the right spot to roll enouph low end off without loosing the kick/ punch.

All in all I think it came out very good. I t sounds big and clear on my Big Egglestons and my walkman.
I had no additional gain via the L2.

Did you use one EQ or several EQ's?
...I have a hard time figuring out if you used the Maselec, Manley or Avalon from that mp3.

Yeh I used the Manley for the low end and I used the Prism for some other eq. I think it was the Manley Vari MU for compression. TWhen I listen to the MP3 file it reminds me why I hate MP3's. It makes me sad that this is how a lot of people listen to music now.
For this forum purpose I guess it's unavoidable. But the fact that so many people listen to them on there computer all day.. sorry to go off on a rant there.
