Hello! I think I have decided on DP3 as my software of choice, to run on the fastest Mac out there (Woo!)...the dual 1Ghz Quicksilver.
Currently, I'm running OS X 10.1 (the default OS), and I imagine that DP is not yet OS X compatible. Did they say when that will be available and the upgrade cost?
The next question deals with drums. I'm a bassist and guitarist...not a drummer. We're planning on using some type of non-real drums, especially cause of the Micing aspect. Budget constraints and room constraints will keep us from using real drums for our projects, which are primarily audio and not midi.
What is the best way to get sampled drums into DP? Is there a drum editor...gridlike thing to build loops and parts? What is the best way to actually get drum sounds? An external drum machine connected via midi? Some type of CD of drum samples that can be dropped in? We're trying for the most realistic drums...not as much house music, hip/hop etc.

DP 3.02 runs just fine on a Dual 1GHz machine & OS 9.2.2. The thing is it won't run at all on OSX or in classic mode. You need to have DP3 at least on a separate partition with OS 9.2.2 or preferably on a second hard drive. You really want to keep all your audio apps separate from everything else.

__Good Choice...DP3 is great. Only main drawback for some is no direct VST support. (for the most part you can get around this).

___I would check out http://www.unicornation.com ...many there have been talking about running DP3 on the newer macs and i believe some are having problems.

__Not for awhile...still alot to be defined in OS X land for audio. More specific to your situation is the fact that DP3 is known to have problems w/ 9.2...the default OS that OS X goes to when it encounters a non OS X program. I personally run 9.1 on a sperate partition and have not had any problems.

__Many ways: individual samples, programs like NI's Battery (great drum kits)/Ableton Live(good loop software)/ and Propellerheads Reason and Rebirth via Rewire. DP 3.1 will also incorporate support of REX files (Recycled loops = change tempo w/out changing pitch very easily)

__Yes, check out Performer notes in Sound on Sound by Robin Bigwood or surf to http://www.bigwood-digital.com to read online. He has an article on making the most of DP's drum Editor. Read all of his articles.
DP3 is great, but a big program (I'm still a newbie) the MAS engine enviroment has some great plugs (quality not quantity) and DP can produce some great results. Just keeping reading lists like this one to keep up on the quirks that affect all programs.
