hi guys, new guy here

just very recently got into recording my bass through my pc

I'm using the line in on my soundcard then into a 6.35mm to 2.5mm jack then the lead and finally my bass

I'm using Ampeg SVX and then garage band to record, my problem is this...

there's a time delay from when i play the note to when it comes through my pc

just wondering how i can get rid of this as through Audacity i have absolutely no problems (i know Audacity is really bad, but it's free)

Computers without actual real studio oriented audio interfaces, aren't really made to record anything except a multimedia microphone and maybe some old cassette tapes. They're not designed for actual professional recording purposes.

For that reason alone, you need to purchase an actual audio interface that also features pass through input to output monitoring. Without having to be processed through the computer, eliminates any latency on the input source.

When you're playing back other tracks, you don't want to be adding any kind of plug-ins or processing of any type. You want your latency to be the lowest possible when doing overdubs. So you set your computer latency by adjusting the buffers, generally. Lower buffers = last latency = less ability to process plug-ins, compression, reverbs, etc.. When you mix, latency isn't an issue and you can turn the buffers up to allow for the use of more plug-ins & processing.

The process of recording requires more than software & microphones that requires all of the proper tools needed to make a professional recording. There aren't any real shortcuts in that respect except for budget oriented entry-level equipment. Which can be perfectly fine for your purposes, last a long time and provide many hours of enjoyment. But nobody made professional recording by going to Kmart in purchasing a $39 cassette recorder. That is essentially what you already have in your computer. So you got to get some better stuff no two ways about that.
